Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed faculty, proud parents and guardians, distinguished guests, and most importantly, the reason we gather here today, the graduands of the 47th Graduation Ceremony. It is an honour to stand before you as the Chancellor for the 8th time since I first officiated at the 40th Graduation Ceremony on June 21, 2019. Today, we celebrate not only the achievements of these outstanding individuals but also the resilience of our great institution, Egerton University.
First and foremost, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to all the graduands here today. Your dedication, perseverance, and hard work have brought you to this momentous day, and I am proud to be here to witness your success. This graduation holds a special significance as it marks the return to in-person ceremonies with full attendance, a symbol of our collective strength in overcoming challenging times.
I want to commend each and every one of you for reaching this milestone. It is not easy to navigate the demanding journey of education, and I applaud the commitment you have shown. I would like to offer a special word of encouragement to our young graduands who are receiving their Diplomas and Bachelor's degrees. I understand that the economic climate in our country is harsh, but I implore you to stay resilient and never lose hope. Your education equips you with the skills and knowledge to confront the challenges ahead.
The theme chosen for this graduation by the University Management is "Quality Education for Employment and Job Creation in the Digital Era." This theme is not only timely but also incredibly relevant to the world we live in today. In the digital age, the employment landscape is rapidly evolving, and universities must play a crucial role in preparing graduates to meet these new challenges.
Quality education is the cornerstone of personal and societal progress. It is the bridge that connects dreams to reality, potential to achievement. In a digital era, the value of education extends beyond traditional classrooms and textbooks. It encompasses a wide array of skills and competencies required to thrive in a technology-driven world. We must ensure that our graduates are not only well-versed in their chosen fields but are also equipped with digital literacy, adaptability, problem-solving abilities, and the capacity for continuous learning.
Universities must evolve to offer programs and opportunities that bridge the gap between academia and the job market. We must encourage innovation and entrepreneurship, fostering an environment where students can turn their creative ideas into reality. In this era of rapid technological advancements, our graduates should be equipped not only to seek employment but also to create jobs and contribute to the growth and development of our society.
Graduands,
As you leave the comforting embrace of this institution, you will be venturing into a world filled with opportunities and challenges. Whether you choose to be entrepreneurs, innovators or enter the private and public sectors, I implore you to uphold the values that you have learned here at Egerton University. Integrity, compassion, and a commitment to excellence should be the guiding principles in your personal and professional lives.
I'd like to leave you with an inspiring quote by Nelson Mandela, who once said, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." As you embark on this new chapter of your lives, remember that the knowledge and skills you have gained are not just for personal advancement but also tools to make a positive impact on the world.
In conclusion, I encourage all the graduands to become active members of the Egerton University Alumni Association. Joining this community offers you the opportunity to network with fellow alumni, connect with mentors, and engage in lifelong learning. The Alumni Association is a valuable resource that can provide guidance, support, and a sense of belonging as you navigate your post-graduate journey.
In closing, I extend my heartfelt congratulations again to all the graduates. You have achieved a significant milestone, and I am confident you will contribute to improving our society and the world. As you go forth, remember that your education is not an endpoint but a beginning. Continue to learn, grow, and make us proud.
Thank you, and may your journey ahead be filled with success and fulfillment. Congratulations!
